Councillor Ciaran Lynch has put a motion before Cork City Council requesting that a by-law be introduced to introduce a ‘Catch and Release Fishing’ at The Lough. This follows reports he has received from people visiting The Lough who have claimed to have witnessed fish being caught and removed.
Speaking on the proposal Cllr Lynch said: “The Lough is a well-renowned and unique area of recreation set right in the middle of our city. Traditionally it has been fished by both children and course anglers alike. It is crucial that the present fish stock be preserved and this recreational activity can be maintained into the future.
“The report I have received that fish are being caught and not being returned is a very worrying development and I am calling for a by-law to be introduced to outlaw this activity.”
